📦 Double Sticker on Day One
Delta Reign hits shelves today, and the Elite Trainer Box still costs more than twice its MSRP. TCGplayer market is $103.18 against a $49.99 sticker. That’s 2.06x, or $11.46 a pack for the nine packs inside.
It was worse in October. The ETB sat at $114.67 on October 19, so it’s down 10% since then, and it slipped from the prior daily reading of $103.67 this morning.
Here’s the release-day board, all TCGplayer market via TCGCSV as of November 6:
Booster Box (36 packs): $222.95, about $6.19 a pack
Elite Trainer Box (9 packs): $103.18, MSRP $49.99
Booster Bundle (6 packs): $53.95, MSRP $26.94
Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box: $299.38
3 Pack Blister: $31.78
Build & Battle Box: $45.78, MSRP $21.99
The bigger moves are in the cheap stuff. The Booster Bundle was $68.99 on October 19 and has lost 21.8%. Build & Battle was $69.92 and has lost 34.5%. These are still thin, early markets, and retail supply is only now arriving.
🎲 Running the Chase Math
Start with what a box should cost. The bundle’s MSRP works out to $4.49 a pack, which puts 36 packs at $161.64. So the $222.95 market price is a $61.31 premium, about 38% over sticker pricing.
Now the pull rates. Pokémon doesn’t publish odds, so these are NerdSnack’s estimates built on TCGplayer’s Pitch Black study of 4,000+ packs. They are not measured Delta Reign data.
Mega Rayquaza ex Special Illustration Rare (Delta Reign #138): about 1 in 480 packs, roughly 7% per box
Mega Rayquaza ex Mega Hyper Rare (Delta Reign #141): about 1 in 1,081 packs, roughly 3% per box
The #138 has five sold listings since November 4, climbing from $383 to $449, per NerdSnack. Call it $448. The gold #141 has no sales yet, and its cheapest listing is $395. So the rarer card is asking less than the easier one just sold for, which tells you how little price discovery has happened.
Do the multiplication. Those two cards contribute about $0.93 and $0.37 a pack, or roughly $47 across a box. On a $223 product. That’s casino math, and it only counts two cards, not the full set. We don’t have a full pack-rip value for this set yet, so don’t read $47 as the box’s total expected value.
Japan offers the warning. The Japanese gold Mega Rayquaza sold for $840 on September 1 and $429.99 on October 22, a 49% drop in under two months, per NerdSnack.
🎂 30th Celebration Keeps Bleeding
We flagged the Ultra-Premium Collection [Night] on Wednesday. It was $575 last Friday and $450 when we wrote. This morning it’s $419.44, down 27% in a week.
The [Day] version fell to $381.29 from $419.73 at the prior reading, a 9.2% drop. The Ditto Premium Collection dropped 13.8%, from $150.55 to $129.72. The Mew Figure Collection is $161.13. Our release tracker lists all of them with a November 6 date, so this is sealed product getting cheaper exactly as it reaches buyers.
And honestly? We can’t tell you where the floor is. Nobody can until restocks show up.
🛒 What We’d Do This Weekend
Because the number that matters on release weekend is the spread between market and sticker. An ETB at MSRP is $53 under market today, so hit the big box stores before you hit a checkout page. We wouldn’t chase a sealed box at $222.95 just to rip it. The chase math above doesn’t get you there.
Singles are the harder call. Paying $448 for #138 in its first week means paying before most of the set has been opened. Five sales isn’t a market yet.
Calendar check: Build & Battle is listed for November 20. Then December 4 brings the 30th Celebration Binder Collection, trading at $94.71, plus the Sylveon ex Tin at $73.10 and the Greninja ex Tin at $55.90. Those presale prices are thin, and they’re the next ones to test.
